The produce is used in their school Life Skills Center where children learn to prepare the foods they have grown.
Students leave their backpacks outside on a bookshelf.  There are no lockers.

Mini lab in the school library. They received a multimillion dollar grant to improve their library.

Students outside at recess at Cairns West State School.  Recess is at the same time for everyone.  The students are required to wear a hat to protect themselves from the intense sun in Australia.

  2. Wow!! I just want to comment on every picture!! What a fantastic view you had of all the amazing under-water inhabitants!! So colorful and diverse! That one picture from the boat of all the "things" just under the surface reminded me of Nemo's "class" at school! haha! How many Americans can say they got to scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef??! And oh,my. Those claws on the Koala are a little scary looking! Once in a lifetime experience for sure! So glad you are sharing it with us!

  3. Oh, and I have to say, what a fantastic idea (and opportunity) to have a Life Skills Center and School Kitchen that teaches students to grow and prepare their food! Your summer school "crops" seem to be hanging in there!
